4 — Why Your Company Needs Data-Product Managers
A MUST READ by Randy Bean, Tom Davenport and Shail Jain in Harvard Business Review. Some great highlights:
A recent survey of data scientists found that the majority saw 20% or fewer of their models go into production deployment.
Data product management responsibilities don’t end with deployment. Data product managers are responsible for ensuring and measuring the ongoing use and value of the data product on a quarterly basis, whether the product has internal or external customers.
Stevenson sees three co-equal leaders of the product effort: a data product manager, a data scientist, and an engineering lead.

5 — The Problem with Communication is….
The Illusion that it actually happened!
❤️ this piece by Daniel Pink on effective #communication. It relates to what I think is the #1 problem with communication, namely: ‘the illusion that it actually happened’. In this Stanford GSB Executive Education post, Dan makes the case that: “When It Comes to Communication, Less Isn’t More”. Some great insights:
Employees are 10 times (!) more likely to be frustrated by leaders who under-communicate than those who over-communicate.
A boss who overloads you with information may be frustrating, but one who leaves you in the dark may come off as uncaring.
Ask employees about their personal communication preferences, and when in doubt, increase the amount of task-related communication.

Time Management or Time Machine?!
Love reading this piece by Dorie Clark and Laura Vanderkam in Harvard Business Review. I remember working with Arun Ulag, Eric Swift and Tom Casey on a PowerPivot app we called “Calendar Analytics” some 11 years ago! I even have the video to prove it! ;) — see below!
Now, we have Calendar Insights in Google Workspace but it’s cool to see that these principles still stay true! :)
